Behind tournament MVP Kam Woods’ 29 points and 15-point fourth quarter, the Midfield Patriots were able to bounce back from last year’s runner-up finish and win their fourth state boys basketball title with a 60-46 victory over Plainview.

Woods finished 11-of-26 from the field on the day but went 6-of-8 in his fourth quarter spree. Plainview entered the fourth quarter leading 36-35 having made key three-point shots throughout the day and stifling much of Midfield’s offense, but the Bears shot a pedestrian 4-for-17 in the final eight minutes.

Also in double figures for Midfield were Shy Cunningham with 11 and Kalon Williams with 10. Anthony Brown led Midfield in rebounds with 19. For Plainview, the Bears were led by Caden Millican’s 15 points while Luke Graham scored 11 and brought down 15 boards.

Midfield lost in last year’s state final to Madison Academy. Before, the Patriots won three titles between 2011 and 2014 as well as one in 1984.
