With only a couple of days until National Signing Day 2017, the dead period has kicked in and recruits across the country are deciding where they want to play football at the next level. Many of the top players in the state of Alabama are already committed and are expected to sign with the schools they chose before now. However, there are still plenty of undecided players as we enter the week.

Here are some of the top names you need to watch out for as we get closer to Wednesday. All of the players below are currently undecided or are there is a major recruiting battle going on for them, even if they are committed.

Ray has been the top ranked player in the state for a while now and is one of only three players to be elevated to 5-star status according to 247Sports and the only player to be a composite 5-star player in the state. For a while now, Alabama has seemed to be the favorite for Ray, but there has been some push from other schools, most notably Tennessee and Florida, both of whom Ray has taken an official visit with. His most recent visit was with the Gators. He also visited Ole Miss back in December.

Ray is expected to sign with Alabama and we believe that will be the case. The team to look out for most likely will be Florida. Ray will announce at 11:40 am on Wednesday.

Ruggs has shot up the charts after his performances at both the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game where he ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown and in the Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio where he had a long touchdown catch. While he is a 5-star according to 247Sports, he is a composite 4-star. Don’t let that fool you though, as he is a dynamic returner and wide receiver. Alabama is the favorite for Ruggs, although Florida State has been working hard to get him to come to Tallahassee in the last couple of weeks with Jimbo Fisher visiting him in Montgomery.

He has only taken official visits to Florida State and Alabama, but Auburn has made a run at him, along with James Franklin and Penn State who came to visit him a couple of weeks ago. Ruggs will announce at 11:00 am on Wednesday.

Nico Collins has been an interesting player to watch this season. After a ton of major talent graduated from Clay-Chalkville after two Super 7 runs, he was left alone with a really young team that squeaked into the playoffs as a 4-seed and lost in the first round to eventual 6A champion Ramsay. Collins was a large part of their success this season, and that skill has been noticed around the country as Michigan has been the leader for Collins in many expert’s minds.

While Michigan is still the leader to some, Georgia has made a large push, with Collins taking his final official visit to Athens this past weekend. Alabama has been considered in his top three for a while, but he never did take an official visit. He was also being recruited by Mario Cristobal (who left) and then Billy Napier (who also left). Dameyune Craig has made a run at Collins as well, with that being the only other school he visited officially other than Michigan and Georgia. Collins will announce at 1:30 pm on Wednesday.

Johnson is the only other undecided player inside the top 20. At times, Johnson has seemed like a solid pick for Auburn, but he has Stanford and Texas on his list as well, with both of those schools getting official visits on top of the Tigers, with Texas coming this past weekend as his final trip. Alabama is on the list as well, but likely off the table. Johnson was named 5A Lineman of the Year after helping lead St. Paul’s to two state titles in 2014 and 2015 and a quarterfinal trip in 2016.

The outlook for Auburn seems ok, and most think he will still end up there. However, when he learned he was accepted into Stanford as he was going on his official to Auburn, he mentioned that fact bringing the Cardinal back up on the list. He also seemed to have a good visit in Austin this past weekend.

UPDATE:

It seems that his acceptance into Stanford was enough after all as he committed to Stanford on Monday night.

Farrell has been committed to LSU since July of last year and is the only committed player on this list as Florida State has been making a major push for him. He also visited Southern Cal a couple of weeks ago. Experts are split on LSU and Florida State right now. Farrell is one of a few SEC commits/heavy leans from the southeast that FSU is trying to flip here in the final days before signing day.

Farrell will announce on Wednesday.

JoxPreps Prediction – Flip to Florida State

Williams has had Louisville listed as his favorite for a while now. We don’t really expect that to change, although he has shown some interest in Tennessee from what we’ve seen. He has offers from many major schools including Michigan and some SEC programs.

Whitlow was the 2A Back of the Year this season, beating out lasts year’s winner and Alabama signee Chadarius Townsend. Whitlow is an extremely talented player who wasn’t seen much by the public coming from a smaller school that made an exit in the quarterfinals this year in the 2A playoffs. He has offers from Auburn, Tulane, UAB and a few others.

With the class UAB has coming in, Whitlow would be a perfect fit. We could see him at Tulane as well. Auburn would be the best school on the list that has made an offer, but not sure how they would use the talented athlete who was a do-it-all quarterback at LaFayette. It’s hard to predict, but UAB seems like the perfect fit for Whitlow in our minds. Troy and Georgia Southern are also in the hunt.

Williams was a Southern Cal commit throughout the 2016 season, only recently decommitting from the Trojans. His list is down to three teams: Georgia Tech, LSU, and Central Florida. He has taken visits to all three. Williams was an integral part of McGill-Toolen’s back-to-back trips to the Super 7 the last two years, winning it all in 2015.

This is a hard one to predict, but more people are leaning towards Central Florida. He has been positive about all three, and this will come down to signing day most likely.

JoxPreps Prediction – LSU
Confidence – Low

Thompson was also integral to McGill-Toolen’s success this year, having a great year in relief of Paris Chambers from the year before. Thompson was an Auburn baseball commit throughout the 2016 season, but decommitted when schools started offering him the chance to play football and baseball, something Auburn didn’t offer him. Tennessee and Ole Miss were two of the first major schools to do so, but Thompson took his only official visit of the recruiting season to Troy this past weekend.

Thompson hasn’t ruled out going somewhere to just play baseball. With that, he will most likely not be signing a letter of intent on Wednesday. He has a visit scheduled to Alabama for baseball on February 4, and has also looked at Samford as a possibility. His football skill is there though, finishing second in 7A Back of the Year voting behind Henry Ruggs III.

There are also some rumblings about the MLB draft factoring into his future plans.

Adams has been a curious case all year. While he has some of the most raw talent in the state, and it showed on the field this season as he helped Minor to a region title and a 6A quarterfinal run, he hasn’t been offered by hardly any of the power five schools around the southeast. His best offer right now comes from Indiana, and he has officially visited the Hoosiers. He most recently visited Missouri and has also looked at Southern Miss and Illinois.

Adams was named the Gatorade Player of the Year this season for the state of Alabama, yet he wasn’t in the top three for 6A Back of the Year and was #11 in Mr. Football voting. Some schools to keep an eye on also include UAB, Tulane, and Rutgers.

JoxPreps Prediction – Indiana
Confidence – Low

As much as we can’t understand where Jaylond Adams is on the overall list of recruits, Terence Dunlap is even more of a head scratcher. Dunlap is only listed as a composite 2-star and the #82 player in the state and #142 RB in the country. Although he played in Class 1A, hardly any player was more valuable to their team over the last three years than Dunlap, as he not only led Maplesville to three straight state championships, but was named MVP in each of them. He was also named 1A Back of the Year in both 2015 and 2016 and named offensive MVP of the Blue-Grey All-American Game in Dallas.

Dunlap has offers from a handful of major schools including Illinois, Rutgers and Nebraska. He has also visited Troy and Tulane who he has offers from. Rutgers seems to be an interested party, and he could fit in well with the Big 10. He will make his final decision on Wednesday at 8:00 am.
