Curry is not only regarded as the top team in the state in class 4A, but also as one of the best in the state regardless of classification. It also doesn’t hurt that MaxPreps has you ranked in the top 10 in the country either.
Loveless Academy Magnet Program (LAMP) had no answer for the Yellow Jackets as Curry got up 2-0 in the first inning behind senior Ashlee Swindle’s two-run homer. Swindle also surpassed the 1,000 career strikeout mark today with a 12 strikeouts in the championship game.
Another Auburn signee, Justus Perry, who actually transferred to Curry from Minnesota last season after playing with Swindle, finished the game with a home run as well, as did catcher Emily Aaron.
Curry will lose Swindle and Perry next season to Auburn, who just won the SEC title this week. There is still some talent on this team, but this roster will go down as one of the best high school teams ever in the state of Alabama.
The Yellow Jackets finish the season with a 47-2 record and only the school’s second state title in history in any sport.
