The number one team in the state in class 2A proved why they were ranked at the top tonight as Sumiton Christian won their second state title in a row over Ider 9-3.
Sumiton Christian junior Kamree Lay was awarded the tournament’s most valuable player award after going 4-4 at the plate with two RBI’s, and also holding Ider to 3 runs on the mound.
The Eagles only have four seniors on the roster and a lot of good, young talent. They will look to keep this momentum going into the off-season and work on putting together another impressive season.
Ider came in ranked fourth in the final ASWA poll, and defeated GW Long in extra innings shortly before taking on Sumiton Christian.
For Sumiton Christian, on top of Lay’s performance, Bailee Trotter and Abbie Brewster both drove in runs in the final inning. For Ider, Kaylan Brown drove in two runs in the game.
