The three-time state champion head coach of Piedmont will be the head coach for Alabama in the 2017 Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game.
Steve Smith was named Alabama’s All-Star team head coach on Monday night. AHSAA Executive Director Steve Savarese made the announcement at on Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium in Jacksonville.
Smith will replace former Opelika coach Brian Blackmon. Blackmon accepted a job with Auburn University as a football analyst in February after being named the head coach in January.
Smith was an assistant coach in the 2016 All-Star game won by Alabama 25-14 and in the 2009 21-13 win. UMS-Wright’s Terry Curtis was the head coach for last year’s Alabama team.
The 2017 All-Star game is set for December 16.
