Three state softball players have been named to the 2017 MaxPreps National Softball Player of the Year Watch List.
Pitcher Annie Willis of Westminster Christian and infielder Jenna Ergle and outfielder Kendall Beth Sides of Sumiton Christian are part of the list.
Willis is the national leader in strikeouts and wins with a 35-1 record with a 0.35 ERA and 438 strikeouts in 200 innings for the season. The Troy signee has a total of 152 wins, 79 shutouts, and 1,870 strikeouts for her career.
Ergle, a Boston College signee, is one RBI away from her fourth straight 100-RBI season. She’s hitting a .533 average with 19 home runs including three grand slams. Her 435 career RBIs are a national record. She also set the freshman national record for RBIs in a season with 127 and was named MaxPreps Freshman of the Year in 2014.
Sides is averaging .605 at the plate with 58 RBIs and 33 extra base hits to go along with 87 runs and 81 stolen bases. The Alabama signee owns the national records for career runs scored at 280 and stolen bases with 450.
The list consists of 12 players from states like California, Virigina, Kentucky, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, Illinois, and Maryland. Alabama’s three lead for the most from any state with two coming from California and one from each of the other states.
