MaxPreps has published their All-American teams, and couple of local players got mentions along with some Alabama and Auburn signees from out of state.
MaxPreps named five All-American teams and Mae Jemison senior John Petty was named to the fifth team after helping lead Jemison to a state title and averaging 21.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game. Petty was recently named Mr. Basketball in the state of Alabama and also earned Gatorade Player of the Year honors as well, winning both of those awards for the second straight year.
Making the honorable mention list was Mountain Brook sophomore Trendon Watford who produced 23 points, 9.9 rebounds and 3 assists per game as he helped lead the Spartans to the 7A title over Garrison Brooks and Auburn.
Alabama signee Collin Sexton was an honorable mention as well from Pebblebrook HS in Mableton, GA. Sexton was the Atlanta Journal Constitution Class 7A player of the year.
Auburn signee Chuma Okeke from Westlake in Atlanta was named a third-team All-American as he was named Georgia’s Mr. Basketball and averaged over 24 points and 15 rebounds per game.
All combined, seven future SEC players made the list in one way or another, starting with future Missouri forward Michael Porter Jr. who was named the MaxPreps National Player of the Year. Porter played at Nathan Hale in Seattle and averaged 37 points and 14 rebounds per game.
