G.W. Long allows just one hit in two-game sweep of Fayetteville for 2A state crown


Collin Searcy and Wells Deloney allowed one hit in 14 innings of work to lead G.W. Long to their 14th state title with 5-0 and 8-0 wins over Fayetteville in Class 2A state title series.

Deloney struck out four and pitched a one-hitter in Game 1. Batting, Deloney went 1-for-4 with a run. The leading hitter for Long in Game 1 was Cole Hatcher, finishing 2-for-4 with a RBI.

In Game 2, Searcy struck out 10 and walked three in a no-hitter for the Rebels. Searcy went 0-for-4 from the plate on Tuesday while Mackenzie Hicks led the way going 2-for-5 including an inside-the-park home run that scored two. Searcy was named the series MVP.

It’s Long’s first state title since 2013. From 1989 to 2005, Long won their 12 other state baseball championships in a 17-year span.
