Former Alabama lineman takes over at Tanner

Tanner has hired former Crimson Tide offensive lineman Maurice Belser to lead the Class 2A Rattlers football program.

Belser recently spent his last season at Lely in Naples, FL. He finished 6-4 in his lone year with the team.

Belser takes over for Laron White, who left to take the head job at Class 7A Sparkman after 14 years. Belser’s last head coaching job in Alabama was at Hillcrest-Evergreen where he went 9-31 in four seasons from 2006-09. He’s also had stints at Aliceville in-state as well as at Moore Haven and Rickards in Florida.

Belser graduated from Cordova in 1992 before joining Alabama and becoming a member of the national championship team under Gene Stallings.

Tanner posted a 9-4 record in 2016 with a quarterfinal appearance in the postseason. White led Tanner to state titles in 2012 and ’13.
