The only coach to lead Opelika to the state finals has resigned as their head coach.
Brian Blackmon, according to reports, has been rumored to be taking a job with Auburn University as an offensive analyst. Nothing official has been announced as of yet from Auburn.
Opelika announced Blackmon’s resignation as head football coach and athletic director Wednesday. Blackmon served as a coach at Opelika for 21 years with the last eight in the head poistion. Before, he was the offensive coordinator under Spencer McCracken.
Blackmon led the Bulldogs to their only two state championship game appearances, but they were unsuccessful in efforts against Hoover in 2012 (31-0) and Ramsay this past season (21-16). Blackmon composed a 69-25 record with Opelika. The Bulldogs won their three region championships under Blackmon in the last three seasons with a combined 18-0 record in league play.
