All eyes were on Bo Nix to see how he would fare on the big stage at Bryant-Denny Stadium…a stadium we may see him at in the future during his college career. After the first half, Nix was 7/12 but with two interceptions as Pinson Valley struggled early and trailed Wetumpka 10-7 at the half.

The second half told a different story as Nix went from making questionable decisions to leading his team to a huge victory 31-10 over Wetumpka.

Nix only went 6/13 in the second half, but he threw for 123 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. He also added two rushing touchdowns to help put the game away and win not only Pinson Valley’s first state championship in school history, but the MVP award as well.

For Wetumpka, all eyes were on Jadarious Martin and Kavosiey Smoke. Both players helped lead two tremendous first half drives for the Indians, one that ended in a field goal an the other on a 4-yard touchdown run from Smoke.

That would be all the scoring of the game for Wetumpka though as Pinson Valley rattled off 24 unanswered points to seal the game.

Not only does Pinson Valley finish 15-0 with a state championship for the first time in school history, but it’s the first ever double digit win season for the Indians. Matt Glover helped build this program into a team that made the playoffs seven straight years before Patrick Nix took over, and now Pinson Valley is on top of the high school football world.

Should Pinson be considered the overall #1 team in the state, regardless of classification? We’ll leave that up for debate. But there is no debate that they are #1 in Class 6A and they have the blue map to prove it.

Wetumpka finishes 13-2 with a region title. Smoke is a senior, but Martin will be back, which means Wetumpka will still be able to challenge for a region title in 6A Region 3 along with Opelika, Benjamin Russell and newcomer Calera.
