We gave a quick update on The Opening regional event over in Atlanta that took place this past Sunday, but more results will continue to come out over the next week or so.

Brian Stumpf, who runs The Opening, tweeted out the top 30 Nike Football Ratings from the event which featured a handful of Alabama players.

Mountain Brook RB Harold Joiner has been wowing everyone lately and is poised to end up as one of the top recruits in the state, and perhaps one of the top running backs in the country, if he keeps this pace up. He finished with the second overall rating on Sunday at 123.78.

Other standouts from Alabama include Hoover WR Shedrick Jackson, who finished 13th with a rating of 109.23. Jackson also had the sixth fastest 40-yard dash time at 4.55 and was the second fastest wide receiver.

Paul Bryant WR Seth Williams, fresh off a basketball state championship, was #15 with 108.18.

Madison County LB Matthew Flint was #23 with a 103.11. He also had the ninth fastest 40-yard dash time at 4.57 and was the fastest linebacker at the camp. For reference, Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers is listed as the only linebacker to run a faster 40-yard dash at the NFL combine, and most teams actually consider him a safety and not a true linebacker.

Rounding out in-state players in the top 30 is Hoover RB Vonte Brackett who was #27 with a rating of 101.85. Brackett will be the #1 guy now that CJ Sturdivant has graduated for Hoover. Although the Bucs have been known for defense the last few years, some offensive stars are starting to break out for Hoover.

Another player who wasn’t on the top 30 list, but did earn an invite to the national finals for The Opening was Central-Phenix City WR Justyn Ross, who is currently listed as the #1 recruit in the state by the 247Sports composite ranking. Other invites will be handed out over time, but Ross is moving on for sure. Also, Saraland QB and Stanford commit Jack West was named to the 2017 Elite 11 roster and will compete there with other top quarterbacks.
