Week 7 is finished and some regions already have region champions, despite there still being two weeks left of region play in most regions. Region play will continue through October 27, when we will know most of the spots in the playoffs, barring tiebreakers.
With JoxPreps bracketology, we take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out as we near the end of region play. Below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. It is our opinion, and none of this is set in stone. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.
With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.
If a team has “LOCKED” next to their name, they are 100% set in that spot.
Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 7A as of right now:
LOCKED = Team is 100% locked into that spot
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results
1. McGill-Toolen – HIGH
2. Fairhope – HIGH
3. Davidson – MEDIUM
4. Foley – LOW
Others that could grab a spot: Theodore, Murphy, Alma Bryant
Fairhope defeated Davidson this past week so that has them set up in a region title match-up against McGill-Toolen. Both teams still have three region games left, as this is one of the rare 9-team regions, but they are both two games ahead of the next team and would have to lose multiple games to fall out of the top 2. Davidson only has two region games left as they move to a non-region game this week. Davidson is looking good for third, as long as they can get past Murphy. We switched out Foley for Theodore after Murphy defeated them this past weekend in double overtime. Foley actually has the easiest schedule left and it could come down to a final game against Theodore. They also hold the tiebreaker win over Murphy.
1. Central-Phenix City – HIGH
2. Auburn – HIGH
3. Lee-Montgomery – MEDIUM
4. Jeff Davis – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Prattville
Central only needs to beat Lee this week and the region title is theirs. If Lee can pull off the upset, it would cause a 3-way tie. Auburn defeated Lee to put them in second assuming they beat Jeff Davis in a couple of weeks. The winner of Prattville/Jeff Davis this week will determine fourth, barring upsets.
1. Hoover – HIGH
2. Thompson – HIGH
3. Mountain Brook – MEDIUM
4. Spain Park – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Vestavia Hills
This region is still coming down to Hoover and Thompson, who have already locked up the two home field spots, it’s just a matter of who wins the game on October 27. We upgraded them to “High” confidence only because they are set as the top two teams, even though Thompson can win and move to first. Mountain Brook’s close win over Vestavia put them in good position to finish third and Spain Park is in good position for fourth now, as long as they don’t lose the two teams at the bottom of the region. Vestavia can still technically make it if Spain Park is upset and they defeat Hoover, but it’s not likely.
1. Hewitt-Trussville – HIGH
2. Bob Jones – HIGH
3. Sparkman – MEDIUM
4. Gadsden City – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: None
Sparkman played great, but Hewitt was too much for them last week. The Huskies only need to win one game to lock up the region, either this week at Huntsville or next week at James Clemens. Huntsville is still technically alive, but must hope Gadsden City falls to Sparkman. If that happens, they can beat Gadsden City in the final week and win a tiebreaker with them. If Grissom can beat Bob Jones and Sparkman, although it’s unlikely, they could cause a tiebreaker situation.
