Week 8 is wrapped up and we are closer to finding out how each region will line up in the playoffs.

With JoxPreps bracketology, we take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out as we near the end of region play. Below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. It is our opinion, and none of this is set in stone unless noted below as “locked in”.

With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.

If a team has “LOCKED” next to their name, they are 100% set in that spot. Teams in red are set in those spots.

Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 6A as of right now:

LOCKED = Team is 100% locked into that spot
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results

Region 1

1. Spanish FortHIGH
2. DaphneMEDIUM
3. SaralandLOW
4. BlountLOW

Others that could grab a spot: Baldwin County

Spanish Fort got a big win this past weekend to put themselves in good position for the region title. They only need to beat either BC Rain or LeFlore over the next two weeks to win it. Baldwin County has shot up to third place currently and only have LeFlore and Daphne left. Assuming Blount beats Gulf Shores, they will finish at 5-3, which means Baldwin County will need to hope to win out because they will lose the tiebreaker to Blount, but will win it against Saraland. If there is a three-way tie at 5-3, it will go to non-region games which Saraland looks to lead now, and that would knock Baldwin County to fifth. Still some work to do in this region before we reach the finish line.

Region 2

1. Park CrossingLOCKED
2. Sidney LanierHIGH
3. Carver-MontgomeryHIGH
4. Stanhope ElmoreHIGH

Others that could grab a spot: None

Park Crossing won the battle with Sidney Lanier and they are done with region play and walk away with the region title yet again. This now puts Sidney Lanier in an interesting position where they could actually lose out on home field advantage in the first round. If Stanhope Elmore beats them next week and Carver is upset by Russell County, then Stanhope Elmore will be second place, Lanier third and Carver fourth. We expect it to look like the above standings though with Lanier and Carver winning next week.

Region 3

1. Benjamin RussellMEDIUM
2. OpelikaMEDIUM
3. WetumpkaMEDIUM
4. PelhamHIGH

Others that could grab a spot: None

These four teams are locked as the playoff representatives, but the order could still vary. Opelika had a big win over Wetumpka to potentially keep them from winning the region. Benjamin Russell is the lone undefeated team left in this region, but they still have to beat Wetumpka this week to win the title. Pelham and Opelika also have to play. We are going with Benjamin Russell and Opelika winning, which would leave the order as it is listed above.

Region 4

1. Hillcrest-TuscaloosaLOCKED
2. McAdoryLOCKED
3. Paul BryantLOCKED
4. Bessemer CityLOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

With the results of Week 8, this region is 100% set.

Region 5

1. HomewoodLOCKED
2. RamsayLOCKED
3. Shades ValleyLOCKED
4. Jackson-OlinMEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: Hueytown

It wasn’t easy, but Homewood locked up their region title for the first time since 2014. With Shades Valley’s loss AND Jackson-Olin’s loss, it puts Ramsay back in second place as they beat John Carroll to lock that up on tiebreakers after beating Shades Valley earlier this year. Shades Valley is hurt by JO’s loss as well as it drops them out of a potential 3-way tie and drops them to third guaranteed. Jackson-Olin plays Parker next week and they must win if they want to make the playoffs. Currently, they are tied with Hueytown at 2-3, but Hueytown gets Homewood. If both JO and Hueytown lose or both win next week, Hueytown is fourth. If Jackson-Olin beats Parker and Homewood beats Hueytown, then Jackson-Olin is fourth. The latter is the scenario we see playing out.

Region 6

1. Pinson ValleyLOCKED
2. Clay-ChalkvilleLOCKED
3. GardendaleHIGH
4. Carver-BirminghamHIGH

Others that could grab a spot: Jasper, Minor

Pinson Valley locked up the region title with a win over Gardendale. That also locks in Clay-Chalkville in second place. Gardendale and Carver are tied, although Gardendale holds the tiebreaker. If Carver wins and Gardendale loses, which we don’t predict to happen since Carver is playing Pinson Valley, then Carver could be the third seed. However, both teams are locked into the playoffs after Week 8’s results.

Region 7

1. OxfordLOCKED
2. Pell CityLOCKED
3. CullmanLOCKED
4. AlbertvilleHIGH

Others that could grab a spot: Fort Payne

Oxford defeated Pell City to lock up first place. Pell City locked up second place at least on tiebreakers as well. Cullman also locked up third place after the Week 8 results. Albertville defeated Fort Payne to put them in position to make the playoffs. They only need to win over Southside-Gadsden or hope that Fort Payne loses to Pell City to lock up fourth place.

Region 8

1. AustinLOCKED
2. Muscle ShoalsLOCKED
3. AthensLOCKED
4. FlorenceMEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: Hartselle

Austin won the region title over Muscle Shoals, who will be second. There are three teams vying for the fourth spot because even assuming Athens falls to Austin, that puts them at 4-3 and they would win a tiebreaker over Florence who is the only team that can challenge them. Hartselle should be able to beat winless Columbia to put them at 3-4. With those results assumed, if Florence beats Hazel Green, then Florence would be fourth. If Hazel Green beats Florence, then that would be a three-way tie unless Decatur also wins over Muscle Shoals, which is unlikely, in which case it would be a four-way tie. No matter what, Hartselle has three non-region wins which could lead to them being the fourth seed in that tiebreaker scenario. It’s unlikely Hazel Green can play their way in with their non-region schedule.
