Week 7 is finished and some regions already have region champions, despite there still being two weeks left of region play in most regions. Region play will continue through October 27, when we will know most of the spots in the playoffs, barring tiebreakers.
With JoxPreps bracketology, we take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out as we near the end of region play. Below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. It is our opinion, and none of this is set in stone. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.
With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.
If a team has “LOCKED” next to their name, they are 100% set in that spot. Teams marked in red inside the bracket are locked in teams.
Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 5A as of right now:
LOCKED = Team is 100% locked into that spot
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results
1. St. Paul’s – HIGH
2. Vigor – MEDIUM
3. Citronelle – MEDIUM
4. Jackson – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Williamson
If St. Paul’s wins this week over Vigor, they will lock up the region title. If Vigor wins, they will have to wait and see if Citronelle wins out or not. Jackson only has one game left and it’s against Citronelle. Williamson has to beat Citronelle and hope Jackson does as well if they want to move into the fourth spot. There are two huge games this week to determine things.
1. Carroll – LOCKED
2. Eufaula – HIGH
3. Charles Henderson – MEDIUM
4. Greenville – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Rehobeth
Carroll is one of the few teams who has already won the region title. They only have one game left against Greenville and they would still win the tiebreaker with Eufaula if they lost. Greenville, Charles Henderson and Rehobeth are all tied at 2-2 right now, but Henderson and Rehobeth play this week. If Henderson wins, Rehobeth is out and the four teams are set, with some seeding positions still undetermined.
1. Demopolis – LOCKED
2. Calera – MEDIUM
3. Marbury – MEDIUM
4. Central-Tuscaloosa – LOW
Others that could grab a spot: Dallas County
Demopolis has locked up the region title. Calera and Marbury play in two weeks for the second seed, assuming Marbury beats Central this week. Dallas County has to hope Marbury wins this week and then they can beat Jemison and set up a game against Central to claim the fourth spot.
1. Beauregard – HIGH
2. Central-Clay County – MEDIUM
3. Sylacauga – MEDIUM
4. Talladega – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: None
Beauregard defeated Central-Clay County to put themselves in great position for the region title. They only need to win one game against two of the bottom teams to lock it up. Central and Sylacauga play this week to determine who gets a home game in round one of the playoffs. Talladega is basically set, however, there is still an upset scenario where Cleburne County can mathematically make it.
1. Briarwood – HIGH
2. Wenonah – MEDIUM
3. St. Clair County – MEDIUM
4. Pleasant Grove – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Fairfield
Briarwood only needs to win one of their next two games to lock up the region title. Wenonah and St. Clair County play for second place next week if they both win this week. Pleasant Grove only needs to beat Woodlawn to lock up a playoff spot. Fairfield would have to beat Wenonah and Moody AND have Pleasant Grove lose to Woodlawn and Briarwood to make it.
1. Mortimer Jordan – MEDIUM
2. Hayden – MEDIUM
3. West Point – MEDIUM
4. Corner – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Curry
Mortimer Jordan got past West Point, but they still have to defeat Hayden to win the region. Assuming Hayden beats Fairview, they should hold the tiebreaker over both West Point and Corner. Curry is still alive, but they have to beat Mortimer Jordan this week and a lot has to happen.
1. Etowah – HIGH
2. Alexandria – MEDIUM
3. Guntersville – MEDIUM
4. Crossville – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Scottsboro
Etowah only needs one win in their next two to lock up the region. Alexandria and Guntersville are playing for second place this week. Scottsboro would have to win out and Crossville would have to lose out to switch places. Not likely, but mathematically possible.
1. Mae Jemison – HIGH
2. Brooks – HIGH
3. Lee-Huntsville – MEDIUM
4. East Limestone – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Lawrence County
Just to be safe, Mae Jemison has to win one more to lock up the region title. Brooks should win out also to lock up second. The Lawrence County/Lee-Huntsville game will determine a lot. If Lee-Huntsville wins, they will be third. If Lawrence County wins, it will cause a tie that has to be played out and Lawrence County still has Mae Jemison.
