Week 6 is in the books and with that, we have a better idea of how the regions will finish out in each classification. Some of the top teams have locked up a playoff spot at the very least and many are already in good position, barring crazy upsets, for a region title.
We take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out with only a few weeks left in region play. Below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. It is our opinion, and none of this is set in stone. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.
With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.
Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 5A as of right now:
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results
1. St. Paul’s – HIGH
2. Jackson – MEDIUM
3. Citronelle – LOW
4. Vigor – LOW
Others that could grab a spot: Williamson
These four teams are, for the most part, set in the playoffs, but the order is still completely up in the air. If Williamson can rattle off three straight wins and Citronelle loses out, which is possible, then Williamson could make it. Their loss to Vigor hurt though.
1. Carroll – HIGH
2. Eufaula – MEDIUM
3. Charles Henderson – MEDIUM
4. Greenville – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Rehobeth
Greenville is behind a little right now, but their two losses were to teams ahead of them. They also beat Rehobeth, even though Rehobeth is ahead right now technically. Carroll has all but locked up the region title.
1. Demopolis – HIGH
2. Calera – HIGH
3. Marbury – LOW
4. Central-Tuscaloosa – LOW
Others that could grab a spot: Dallas County
Demopolis has all but locked up the region title and can for sure with a win this week. Calera is pretty set barring an upset to Marbury at the end of the season. The three teams behind those two is still up in the air.
1. Beauregard – MEDIUM
2. Central-Clay County – MEDIUM
3. Sylacauga – MEDIUM
4. Talladega – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Valley
The region title will come down to Beauregard and Central-Clay County, much like it did last year. That game is this weekend. Both teams are at medium now because that could go either way. Don’t forget that although Beauregard is the reigning 5A champion and has the reigning Mr. Football winner – Central beat them last year to win the region. Behind them, Sylacauga is looking good and Valley will have to run the table to sneak in over Talladega.
1. Briarwood – HIGH
2. Wenonah – MEDIUM
3. St. Clair County – MEDIUM
4. Pleasant Grove – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Fairfield
Briarwood is all but locked in as region champ. Wenonah and St. Clair County will play at the end of the region schedule to see who finishes second. Fairfield could still make it, but they already lost to Pleasant Grove which means in a tiebreaker scenario, they would lose.
1. Mortimer Jordan – MEDIUM
2. West Point – MEDIUM
3. Corner – MEDIUM
4. Hayden – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Curry
Mortimer Jordan still has to beat West Point and Hayden to win the region title as of now, so they aren’t locked in by any means. We dropped Hayden behind Corner after their upset loss to Springville last weekend. Corner and Hayden play this week to determine who is on top in this scenario. Curry’s loss to Hayden has them in a rough position, but if they can pull an upset somewhere, they could still make it.
1. Etowah – HIGH
2. Alexandria – MEDIUM
3. Guntersville – MEDIUM
4. Crossville – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: None
Etowah has already beaten everyone they need to for a tiebreaker scenario except Crossville. Crossville’s loss to Boaz hurt them though. Alexandria and Guntersville face each other for a game that could determine home field in the playoffs next week.
1. Mae Jemison – MEDIUM
2. Brooks – MEDIUM
3. Lee-Huntsville – MEDIUM
4. East Limestone – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Lawrence County
Mae Jemison faces Lee-Huntsville this week and if they win, they will win the region title most likely. If that happens, then Brooks will be ahead of Lee on head-to-head if they tie. East Limestone defeated Lawrence County this past weekend to jump ahead of them, and Lawrence County still has two of the top 3 teams remaining which is why we have them out right now.
