Week 8 is wrapped up and we are closer to finding out how each region will line up in the playoffs.

With JoxPreps bracketology, we take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out as we near the end of region play. Below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. It is our opinion, and none of this is set in stone unless noted below as “locked in”.

With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.

If a team has “LOCKED” next to their name, they are 100% set in that spot. Teams in red on the bracket are set in those spots.

Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 2A as of right now:

Confidence

LOCKED = Team is 100% locked into that spot
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results

Region 1

1. St. Luke’sLOCKED
2. LeroyHIGH
3. JU BlacksherMEDIUM
4. ChickasawMEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: Southern Choctaw

St. Luke’s locked up the region last week with a win over Washington County and also eliminated them from the playoffs. Leroy is alone in second right now, but must beat JU Blacksher to lock up a first round home game. If JU Blacksher wins, they will be second and Leroy will be third. JU Blacksher is in the playoffs no matter what, but their seeding could change depending on who wins between Chickasaw and Southern Choctaw. The winner of that game is in the playoffs and the loser is out, but then depending on who the winner is, their seeding could change.

Assuming Leroy wins over JU Blacksher, that would put JU Blacksher at 3-3 in region play on the season. The winner of Southern Choctaw and Chickasaw will also be 3-3. In this scenario, if Southern Choctaw wins, they are fourth and JU Blacksher is third. If Chickasaw wins, they are third and JU Blacksher is fourth because Chickasaw won head-to-head.

Region 2

1. AritonLOCKED
2. AbbevilleLOCKED
3. Geneva CountyHIGH
4. SamsonHIGH

Others that could grab a spot: None

Ariton took down Abbeville to win the region title, and Abbeville is locked into second place because of it. Geneva County and Samson are tied for third, and still have one game left. If they both win or both lose, Geneva County is third. If only Samson wins, they are third, but that seems unlikely since they are playing region champ Ariton.

Region 3

1. GoshenMEDIUM
2. LuverneMEDIUM
3. ElbaMEDIUM
4. New BrocktonHIGH

Others that could grab a spot: Central-Hayneville

Luverne beat Elba last week to set up a 3-way tie for first. Goshen is done with region play, and has to hope that Elba loses again to 1-7 Zion Chapel to win the region outright, which isn’t likely. If Elba wins and Luverne beats Central-Hayneville, then there will be a three-way tie for first that will get into non-region games and we’ll have to wait and see on that one. New Brockton has winless Calhoun up this week, so as long as they win, they are in as the fourth seed. Central-Hayneville is technically alive, but they have to beat Luverne and hope New Brockton loses, which isn’t likely.

Region 4

1. AlicevilleLOCKED
2. ThorsbyHIGH
3. KeithHIGH
4. Francis MarionLOW

Others that could grab a spot: RC Hatch, Billingsley

Aliceville has locked up this region because even if they lose, Thorsby and Keith are playing so that will eliminate one part of a potential three-way tie. The winner of that game is second and the loser of that game is third guaranteed. The final spot is up for grabs among the three teams listed. If Francis Marion beats RC Hatch, they are the fourth seed no matter what. If Francis Marion loses, then Billingsley will have to beat Aliceville to lock up fourth. If RC Hatch beats Francis Marion and Billingsley falls to Aliceville, there will be a 3-way tie and it will go to non-region games.

Region 5

1. LanettHIGH
2. LaFayetteHIGH
3. ReeltownLOCKED
4. VincentMEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: Ranburne, Horseshoe Bend

Lanett and LaFayette play this week for first place, and the loser gets second. Reeltown is locked into third no matter what by virtue of having two losses, but holding the tiebreaker over Vincent if they tied. Vincent and Ranburne will play for fourth. If Vincent wins, they are fourth. If Ranburne wins, then they have to hope Horseshoe Bend loses to lock up fourth. If not, there will be a three-way tie for fourth that will go to non-region wins and Vincent has a big advantage there.

Region 6

1. FyffeLOCKED
2. Sand RockLOCKED
3. Westbrook ChristianHIGH
4. IderHIGH

Others that could grab a spot: None

Fyffe locked up the region title last week, and Sand Rock locked up second place because a potential three-way tie will be broken this week when Westbrook Christian and Ider square off. It’s simple – winner of that game is third, loser is fourth.

Region 7

1. ClevelandMEDIUM
2. TarrantMEDIUM
3. FalkvilleMEDIUM
4. Winston CountyLOW

Others that could grab a spot: Tanner, West End-Walnut Grove

Tarrant lost to Cleveland last week which has set up a potential three-way tie that will go to non-region games assuming neither of them lose this week. Tanner, Winston County and West End are all fighting for fourth place. If Winston County wins this week over West End, they are the fourth seed guaranteed. If West End wins, then Tanner will have to beat Falkville to be locked in. If West End wins and Tanner falls to Falkville, then there will be a three-way tie for fourth as well that will go to non-region games. This region is way up in the air, aside from the fact that the top three teams above have at least qualified for a playoff spot.

Region 8

1. Lamar CountyHIGH
2. SulligentHIGH
3. Mars Hill BibleLOCKED
4. SheffieldLOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

Sulligent and Lamar County face off this week for the region title. Sheffield’s season is done and there is no way anyone can pass them in fourth. Even if Mars Hill Bible loses this week to Hatton, they will win the tiebreaker over Sheffield.
