247Sports has updated their recruiting rankings and a handful of in-state players have found their way into the rankings.
4-star WR Justyn Ross has long been the #1 recruit in the state for next season according to 247Sports. That could change with some of the great talent coming back this season. However, he comes in at #41 in the national rankings and is actually #31 in the composite rankings. He’s gotten plenty of interest from major schools across the country, and he’s being projected to either Alabama or Auburn right now.
However, you open up his profile and who are his top recruiters? At Alabama, it’s Lane Kiffin and at Auburn, believe it or not, it’s Rhett Lashlee and Dameyune Craig. That’s how long he’s been getting looks.
4-star CB Jalyn Armour-Davis from St. Paul’s comes in as the next highest Alabama player at #75. He has offers from Auburn, Florida, Oklahoma, Southern Cal and others. Right now he’s projected to go to Auburn, but with the success of St. Paul’s over the last three years and with Ryan Johnson going to Stanford, there will continue to be plenty of national attention on the top players from St. Paul’s.
Coynis Miller has the potential to be the top player in the state after the 2017 season. Jackson-Olin has proven how good their defense is and while it will miss Tadarian Moultry, that has also put a spotlight on the rest of the players for the Mustangs, with Miller at the top of the list.
He comes in as a 4-star DT ranked #128 and #13 at the position. He has great skill and that skill has been noticed by Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Michigan and others as they have all offered him a scholarship as a junior.
Coming in at #4 for in-state players and #146 overall in the country is pro-style quarterback Jack West from Saraland. West is a 4-star guy who is 6-3, 200 lbs. and is actually #98 on the composite rankings. He is also the highest rated player that is already committed. He actually committed to Stanford back in July of last year.
However, as his stock grows, he will continue to get looks from coast to coast as schools like Alabama, Auburn, Cal, Duke, Louisville, Michigan, Nebraska, Texas A&M, UCLA, Southern Cal and more have all extended an offer already to the talented quarterback. He will be one to watch, but it will be interesting to see how Saraland does in 6A Region 1 this season with the talent that left like Blount’s Kadarius Toney and Spanish Fort’s Thomas Johnston and Justin Thomas.
A guy who has shot up the charts lately is Mountain Brook running back Harold Joiner, who checks in at #171 and #155 on the composite rankings. Joiner isn’t listed on the composite rankings, but is the #7 running back in the country according to 247Sports.
He has offers from Auburn, Kentucky, Ole Miss and a handful of group of five schools. He will get a lot of looks, especially if he is successful next season and is the leading rusher coming out of 7A Region 3, which features some of the best defenses in the state with Hoover, Spain Park, Thompson, Vestavia and others.
Keep your eye on Joiner.
A name you might not here a bunch is Seth Williams out of Paul Bryant. Bryant has struggled lately with talented teams in-region like McAdory, Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa and Bessemer City. However, with other all-stars leaving the region like Brian Robinson (Alabama) and Malcolm Askew (Auburn), this could be a chance for Williams to shine.
Williams is the #176 overall player (#142 composite) and listed as the #25 WR in the country. He was being recruited by Steve Sarkisian at Alabama and many had him ending up with the Tide since Bryant is just down the street. However, we don’t know if Sarkisian leaving will change things any, but he also has offers from Auburn, Florida, florida State, Georgia and others.
Andres Fox is a name we might not hear much out of, but Mobile Christian stepped up big this season so we could hear more from him. 247Sports has him as the #225 player nationally and #12 weak-side defensive end at 6-5, 230 lbs.
Alabama just offered him yesterday. Auburn offered him a while back, and Fox also has offers from Penn State, Ole Miss, Arizona and other major schools.
Other players to keep an eye on that are listed in the composite rankings include:
4-star OT Tank Jenkins (Park Crossing)
4-star S Myles Mason (Pleasant Grove)
4-star RB Asa Martin (Austin)
4-star DT Alfred Thomas (Sidney Lanier)
4-star ATH Nathaniel Watson (Maplesville)
4-star DT Timaje Porter (Theodore)
3-star OLB Jacquez Jones (Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa)
3-star DUAL James Foster (Sidney Lanier)
3-star ATH Kolbi Fuqua (Cordova)
