It’s time for JoxPreps Bracketology for the 2020 season!
This has been quite the season! We are inching closer to the playoffs and with our bracketology, we like to take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out with only a few weeks left in region play. Below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. These current placings are a mix of current standings, projections and our opinion – none of this is set in stone yet. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.
With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.
Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 7A as of right now:
* – Seeds/teams marked in red are still up in the air.
LOCKED = Locked into that position no matter what
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results
1. Theodore (7-0) – LOCKED
2. Daphne (7-1) – LOCKED
3. Fairhope (5-2) – HIGH
4. Baker (4-3) – HIGH
Others that could grab a spot: Murphy (4-3)
Theodore and Daphne are locked in.
Fairhope has to play Murphy (who is also 4-3) in the final week. If Fairhope wins, it will be like it is written with no tiebreaker.
If Murphy wins, then it could cause a three-way tie with Fairhope and Baker for third (all at 5-3) and it would go to non-region games.
Fairhope – 13 (beat Spanish Fort who had 7 wins and Andalusia who had 6 wins)
Murphy – 8 (beat James Clemens who had 8 wins)
Baker – 0 (no non-region wins)
So if Murphy wins (and Baker wins to cause this tiebreaker) then Fairhope would win it no matter what (since all non-region games are over for these teams and Murphy can’t catch them).
So Fairhope is in the third spot no matter what, even if Murphy wins.
EXCEPT if Baker loses to Davidson (1-5) AND Murphy wins. If Baker loses, then it would put them at 4-4, and a Murphy win would put them at 5-3 with Fairhope. Then Murphy would be the third seed and Fairhope would be fourth.
So there is an outside chance for Murphy to not only make it, but avoid Auburn in the first round of the playoffs. So technically Fairhope and Baker aren’t locked in their spots yet (except Fairhope is in the playoffs regardless).
1. Auburn (6-0) – LOCKED
2. Central-Phenix City (5-1) – LOCKED
3. Prattville (4-2) – LOCKED
4. Enterprise (4-2) – LOCKED
Others that could grab a spot: None
Waiting on Prattville/Jeff Davis score. If Prattville won, it’s as it’s written.
1. Thompson (7-0) – LOCKED
2. Hoover (6-1) – LOCKED
3. Hewitt-Trussville (5-2) – LOCKED
4. Oak Mountain (4-3) – LOCKED
Others that could grab a spot: None
Thompson and Hoover play this week – winner is first, loser is second.
Oak Mountain and Hewitt-Trussville play this week – winner is third, loser is fourth.
1. Austin (6-1) – LOCKED
2. James Clemens (6-1) – LOCKED
3. Sparkman (5-2) – LOCKED
4. Grissom (4-3) – LOCKED
Others that could grab a spot: Florence (4-3)
Grissom and Florence are tied, but Grissom beat Florence head-to-head in the final week to get the fourth seed.
