It’s time for JoxPreps Bracketology for the 2020 season!
This has been quite the season! We are inching closer to the playoffs and with our bracketology, we like to take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out with only a few weeks left in region play. Below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. These current placings are a mix of current standings, projections and our opinion – none of this is set in stone yet. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.
With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.
Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 7A as of right now:
* – Teams marked in red are locked into that position
LOCKED = Locked into that position no matter what
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results
1. Theodore (5-0) – HIGH
2. Daphne (4-1) – MEDIUM
3. Baker (4-1) – MEDIUM
4. Murphy (3-2) – LOW
Others that could grab a spot: Fairhope (2-1)
Theodore is looking like the strongest team so far in the region, with Daphne right behind them (Theodore beat Daphne in overtime). Baker is next with their only loss being to Theodore to start region play, their win over Murphy last week separated them into the third spot.
The biggest question mark is Fairhope who has only played 3 region games so far. Their one loss is to Daphne, and they play Theodore this week with Baker after. However, their game against Davidson was postponed due to Hurricane Sally and hasn’t been made up. They still have to play the other three teams ahead of them minus Daphne and will put themselves into position based on that.
1. Auburn (4-0) – HIGH
2. Central-Phenix City (3-1) – MEDIUM
3. Prattville (3-1) – MEDIUM
4. Enterprise (1-2) – LOW
Others that could grab a spot: Smiths Station (0-2)
Auburn put themselves on track for the region title with their win over Central this past week. They own the tiebreaker with every team behind them now. They take a break from region play this week and only need to win one of the next two to lock up the region.
Central and Prattville play this week with the Lions hosting. The winner will get second place while the lose will take third with both of them holding the tiebreaker over Enterprise and Smiths Station. Enterprise and Smiths Station play this week in what is essentially an elimination game.
1. Thompson (4-0) – MEDIUM
2. Hoover (4-0) – MEDIUM
3. Oak Mountain (3-1) – MEDIUM
4. Hewitt-Trussville (2-2) – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Vestavia Hills (1-3)
Thompson and Hoover are on a collision course for a region title game at the end of the season. They have both now beaten Hewitt-Trussville. Oak Mountain is the only team that can really throw a wrench in things, but they would have to beat Thompson next week. For now, Oak Mountain is ahead of Hewitt based on record, but if they lose along the way (most likely to Thompson) then they will face Hewitt for the third seed in the final week.
Technically – Gadsden City, Tuscaloosa County and Vestavia Hills could win out and throw their hat in the ring, but they all have to play multiple teams from the top 4…except for Vestavia. If Vestavia upsets Hewitt-Trussville this weekend, then they only need to win out over Spain Park (0-4) and Gadsden City (1-3) to make the playoffs. Vestavia only lost to Hoover by 3 and Oak Mountain on a last second touchdown, so we’ll see.
1. Sparkman (4-0) – HIGH
2. Austin (3-1) – MEDIUM
3. James Clemens (3-1) – MEDIUM
4. Grissom (2-2) – LOW
Others that could grab a spot: Florence (2-2)
Sparkman has been the best team despite not looking too hot in their non-region games. They really only need to win their next two against Florence and James Clemens to set themselves in the 1-spot. Austin and James Clemens are tied but Austin beat James Clemens and has already played Sparkman.
The fourth spot is still up for grabs as Grissom and Florence are tied and haven’t played each other yet. However, Florence has only played two games so far this season, winning one and losing the other. They have been on the winning and losing end of four different forfeits. Their game against Grissom at the end could be for fourth place, or Grissom could move up with a win over James Clemens this week.
