It’s time for JoxPreps Bracketology for the 2020 season!

This has been quite the season! We are inching closer to the playoffs and with our bracketology, we like to take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out with only a few weeks left in region play. Below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. These current placings are a mix of current standings, projections and our opinion – none of this is set in stone yet. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.

With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.

Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 6A as of right now:

* – Seeds/teams marked in red are still up in the air.

LOCKED = Locked into that position no matter what
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results

Region 1

1. Spanish Fort (7-0)LOCKED
2. Saraland (6-1)LOCKED
3. McGill-Toolen (5-2)LOCKED
4. Blount (4-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

This region is complete.

Region 2

1. Opelika (7-0)LOCKED
2. Eufaula (5-2)LOCKED
3. Carver-Montgomery (5-2)LOCKED
4. Lee-Montgomery (5-2)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

Opelika has locked up the region. Behind them, it’s a three-way tie for second.

Lee beat Eufaula who beat Carver who beat Lee. They all lost to Opelika. So it will go to defeated non-region opponents win totals.

As it stands:

Eufaula – 14 (defeated Carroll who has 3 wins, Central-Phenix City who has 6, Stanhope Elmore who has 5)
Lee – 0 (defeated Jeff Davis who has 0 wins)
Carver – 0 (defeated Jeff Davis who has 0 wins)

Lee, nor Carver can catch them with their remaining games, so Eufaula would be second. Then it would go to head-to-head which Carver won.

Region 3

1. Pelham (6-0)LOCKED
2. Stanhope Elmore (4-2)MEDIUM
3. Wetumpka (4-2)MEDIUM
4. Helena (4-2)MEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: None

Pelham is locked in.

There is a 3-way tie for second at 4-2. So it goes to non-region games.

As it stands:

Stanhope Elmore – 6 (defeated Selma who has 6 wins)

Helena – 3 (defeated Dallas County who has 3 wins, could get 4)

Wetumpka – 2 (defeated Tallassee who has 2 wins, could get 3)

Stanhope Elmore still has Smiths Station (3 more). Helena still has UMS-Wright (6 more). Depending on those, Helena or Stanhope would win second because the max Stanhope could get is 6 and the max Helena can get is 10. It comes down to Helena and UMS-Wright because then the head-to-head between Wetumpka and the loser of that tiebreaker would be different depending on who it is.

If Helena beats UMS-Wright then – 2) Helena, 3) Stanhope Elmore, 4) Wetumpka

If UMS-Wright beats Helena then – 2) Stanhope Elmore, 3) Wetumpka, 4) Helena

Region 4

1. Hueytown (5-1)LOCKED
2. Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa (5-1)LOCKED
3. Northridge (4-2)LOCKED
4. McAdory (3-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

Hueytown wins the region with their head-to-head win over Hillcrest.

Region 5

1. Mountain Brook (6-0)LOCKED
2. Briarwood (5-1)LOCKED
3. Shades Valley (3-3)LOCKED
4. Homewood (3-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

Shades Valley gets the tiebreaker after beating Homewood head-to-head.

Region 6

1. Pinson Valley (5-0)LOCKED
2. Clay-Chalkville (5-1)LOCKED
3. Gardendale (4-2)LOCKED
4. Minor (3-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

This region is complete.

Region 7

1. Oxford (5-0)LOCKED
2. Fort Payne (4-1)LOCKED
3. Southside-Gadsden (3-3)LOCKED
4. Arab (2-4)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

Arab, Springville and Pell City are all tied for fourth at 2-4. However, the first tiebreakers before non-region games are the team’s records against the #1 team, then the #2 team, then the #3 team. Arab beat Southside-Gadsden but Springville and Pell City did not. Therefore Arab is locked into fourth.

Region 8

1. Athens (6-1)LOCKED
2. Cullman (5-1)LOCKED
3. Hartselle (5-2)LOCKED
4. Muscle Shoals (5-2)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

Cullman still has a game left against winless Columbia. Athens is region champ because they beat Cullman already. It doesn’t matter what happens with Cullman because they either win the game, then are second based on a lost tiebreaker to Athens – or they lose the game and are second on a won tiebreaker over Hartselle/Muscle Shoals (beat them both head-to-head).
