It’s time for JoxPreps Bracketology for the 2020 season!

This has been quite the season! We are inching closer to the playoffs and with our bracketology, we like to take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out with only a few weeks left in region play. Below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. These current placings are a mix of current standings, projections and our opinion – none of this is set in stone yet. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.

With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.

Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 5A as of right now:

* – Seeds/teams marked in red are still up in the air.

Confidence

LOCKED = Locked into that position no matter what
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results

Region 1

1. St. Paul’s (5-0)LOCKED
2. Faith Academy (4-1)LOCKED
3. UMS-Wright (3-2)LOCKED
4. Satsuma (3-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

This region is complete.

Region 2

1. Pike Road (6-0)LOCKED
2. Andalusia (5-1)LOCKED
3. Carroll (3-3)LOCKED
4. Rehobeth (3-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

Carroll beat Rehobeth head-to-head so they are third. Reports said Carroll may be ending their season. If that includes the playoffs, then the next team would be Greenville.

Region 3

1. Demopolis (6-0)LOCKED
2. Selma (5-1)LOCKED
3. Marbury (3-3)LOCKED
4. Shelby County (3-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

Marbury beat Shelby County head-to-head so they are third.

Region 4

1. Central-Clay County (5-0)LOCKED
2. Holtville (4-2)LOCKED
3. Sylacauga (4-2)LOCKED
4. Talladega (3-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

Holtville beat Sylacauga to claim second place.

Region 5

1. Ramsay (6-0)LOCKED
2. Pleasant Grove (6-1)LOCKED
3. Parker (5-1)LOCKED
4. Fairfield (3-4)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

This region is complete, but needs some explaining as to why/how because there are games still to play.

The win for Ramsay over Pleasant Grove in week 9 makes it look like it did not lock up the region title because they still have to play Parker in a rescheduled game from earlier this season. Parker is solidly in third right now. However…

If it went to non-region games (aka a Parker win over Ramsay making all three teams 6-1), then it would be as follows:

Ramsay – 9 (Bessemer City: 2, Pinson Valley: 7)

Pleasant Grove – 8 (Central-Clay County: 8)

Parker – 0 (no wins)

So Ramsay is winning this and the best Pleasant Grove can do is tie them (assuming Central-Clay County wins and Bessemer City/Pinson Valley lose next week). The rules state that if two teams tie at the top of the tiebreaker, then the winner of the head-to-head match-up would be the winner of the tiebreaker, which would be Ramsay. So either way – by winning outright or going to this tiebreaker – Ramsay is walking away with the top seed. Then Pleasant Grove is second because they beat Parker and Parker is third.

Behind them, Carver and Fairfield were tied at 3-4 after Wenonah’s loss to John Carroll in the final week. Fairfield won head-to-head so they are fourth.

Region 6

1. Alexandria (7-0)LOCKED
2. Leeds (6-1)LOCKED
3. Center Point (5-2)LOCKED
4. Hayden (3-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

Hayden beat Corner head-to-head so they will be fourth regardless because Corner finished 3-4. Hayden still has a region game left to make-up against Moody.

Region 7

1. Guntersville (6-0)LOCKED
2. Fairview (5-1)LOCKED
3. Boaz (4-2)LOCKED
4. West Point (3-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

This region is complete.

Region 8

1. Russellville (6-0)LOCKED
2. East Limestone (5-1)LOCKED
3. Mae Jemison (4-2)LOCKED
4. Lawrence County (3-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

This region is complete.
