It’s time for JoxPreps Bracketology for the 2020 season!

This has been quite the season! We are inching closer to the playoffs and with our bracketology, we like to take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out with only a few weeks left in region play. Below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. These current placings are a mix of current standings, projections and our opinion – none of this is set in stone yet. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.

With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.

Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 3A as of right now:

* – Seeds/teams marked in red are still up in the air.

Confidence

LOCKED = Locked into that position no matter what
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results

Region 1

1. TR Miller (6-0)LOCKED
2. Hillcrest-Evergreen (4-2)MEDIUM
3. Flomaton (4-2)MEDIUM
4. Bayside Academy (4-2)MEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: None

This goes to non-region wins, which as of now is:

Hillcrest-Evergreen – 8 (beat Pike County who has 5 wins, Carver-Birmingham who has 4 wins)

Flomaton – 6 (beat Choctaw County who forfeited their season and will end with 0 wins, Ariton who has 5 wins, Jay (FL) who has 1 win)

Bayside Academy – 5 (beat Escambia County who has 2 wins, Houston Academy who has 3 wins, BC Rain who has 1 win)

Right now Hillcrest leads, but they are done with non-region play while Flomaton has Escambia County (2 more) and Bayside Academy has Elberta (3 more). Plus there is potential for beaten teams to add one more next week. So it’s still open to everyone and this could down a few more tiebreakers before it’s decided depending on what happens next week.

Region 2

1. Slocumb (6-0)LOCKED
2. Opp (5-1)LOCKED
3. Wicksburg (4-2)LOCKED
4. Providence Christian (2-4)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

Providence Christian is locked in to the final spot because they beat Houston Academy head-to-head.

Region 3

1. Montgomery Academy (6-0)LOCKED
2. Thomasville (5-1)LOCKED
3. Greensboro (4-2)LOCKED
4. Southside-Selma (2-4)MEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: Hale County (2-4)

Hale County, Southside-Selma and Monroe County are all tied for fourth. It will go to non-region wins. Currently it stands:

Southside-Selma – 13 (Selma: 6, Keith: 7, RC Hatch: 0)

Hale County – 9 (Sipsey Valley: 0, Sulligent: 2, Northside: 7)

Monroe County – 5 (JF Shields: 3, JU Blacksher: 2)

Monroe County still has Excel who can add 2 more wins, Hale County has Lamar County who can add 4 more wins, and Southside-Selma has Dallas County that can add 3 more wins. There is a chance Hale County can catch Southside-Selma (if they beat Lamar County and their currently beaten teams win at least the same amount of games in the final week that Southside-Selma’s already beaten teams do because they will win a tiebreaker if it’s tied between them).

There is not a chance Monroe County can win this, because the max they can hit is 9.

Region 4

1. Montgomery Catholic (7-0)LOCKED
2. Trinity (6-1)LOCKED
3. Pike County (5-2)LOCKED
4. Dadeville (4-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

This region is complete.

Region 5

1. Piedmont (6-1)LOCKED
2. Walter Wellborn (6-1)LOCKED
3. Ohatchee (6-1)LOCKED
4. Saks (4-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

There is a 3-way tie for first in this region that will go to non-region games. As it stands:

Piedmont – 13 (Cherokee County: 7, Jacksonville: 6)

Walter Wellborn – 8 (Anniston: 3, Hamilton: 5)

Ohatchee – 5 (Cleburne County: 2, Anniston: 3)

Walter Wellborn’s season is done. Piedmont has Alexandria left who could add 9 wins. Ohatchee has Munford who could add 5 wins. Piedmont can’t get caught in this tiebreaker, so they would win the top seed because of it. Then Walter Wellborn beat Ohatchee head-to-head so they would be second.

Region 6

1. Winfield (7-0)LOCKED
2. Vinemont (5-2)MEDIUM
3. Oakman (5-2)MEDIUM
4. JB Pennington (5-2)MEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: None

There is a 3-way tie for second that will go to non-region games. As it stands:

Vinemont – 2 (Hanceville: 2)

JB Pennington – 1 (Oak Grove: 1)

Oakman – 0 (Curry: 0)

Oakman still has Cordova to add 1 win. JB Pennington has Locust Fork who could add 5 wins. Vinemont has Cold Springs who could add 4 wins. Oakman can’t win, but they can potentially tie still (if they win and Curry wins over West Point). Vinemont and JB Pennington still have chances to win. So this needs to play out.

Region 7

1. Fyffe (6-0)LOCKED
2. Plainview (5-1)LOCKED
3. Geraldine (4-2)LOCKED
4. Sylvania (3-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

This region is complete.

Region 8

1. East Lawrence (6-0)LOCKED
2. Lauderdale County (5-1)LOCKED
3. Colbert Heights (3-3)MEDIUM
4. Clements (3-3)MEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: Phil Campbell (3-3)

There is a three-way tie for third between Colbert Heights, Phil Campbell and Clements that will go to non-region games. As it stands:

Colbert Heights – 8 (Decatur Heritage: 8)

Phil Campbell – 7 (Phillips: 3, Lamar County: 4)

Clements – 0

Clements has Hatton who could add 4 wins. Colbert Heights has Wilson who could add 1. Phil Campbell has Hackleburg who could add 4 wins. Only Phil Campbell or Colbert Heights can win third place.

If Phil Campbell wins – Colbert Heights is fourth

If Colbert Heights wins – Clements is fourth
