It’s time for JoxPreps Bracketology for the 2019 season!

We are nearing the end of the regular season and that means the playoffs are close! We take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out with only a few weeks left in region play. Below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. These current placings are a mix of current standings, projections and our opinion – none of this is set in stone yet. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.

With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.

Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 7A as of right now:

* – Teams marked in red are locked into that position

LOCKED = Locked into that position no matter what
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results

Region 1

1. McGill-Toolen (5-0)HIGH
2. Theodore (5-1)HIGH
3. Murphy (3-2)MEDIUM
4. Fairhope (4-2)MEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: Baker (2-3)

McGill-Toolen’s win over Theodore has put them in a good position to win the region title. They only have to win two of their next three to lock it up. Theodore only needs to win one of their next two region games to lock up second place.

Murphy has one less win than Fairhope, but they have the head to head tiebreaker over Murphy, so we project them to third and Fairhope to fourth. Baker still has an outside chance to make it in but they would have to defeat Murphy this coming week.

Region 2

1. Central-Phenix City (4-0)HIGH
2. Prattville (3-1)LOW
3. Lee-Montgomery (3-2)LOW
4. Auburn (3-1)LOW

Others that could grab a spot: Enterprise (1-3)

Central is looking good and only needs to beat Auburn to win the region. If Auburn falls to Prattville this week, then just beating Jeff Davis will be enough for Central. Lee is above Auburn despite the extra loss because they won head-to-head.

Enterprise could still jump in and make it interesting but a lot would have to happen.

Region 3

1. Thompson (5-0)MEDIUM
2. Mountain Brook (5-0)MEDIUM
3. Hoover (4-1)MEDIUM
4. Vestavia Hills (3-2)HIGH

Others that could grab a spot: Oak Mountain (1-4)

With Spain Park and Hewitt-Trussville’s loss, the four teams are basically set for the playoffs. The only thing that can happen is that Oak Mountain wins out, which would include a win over Vestavia and they can sneak into the fourth seed, but that is very unlikely. Hewitt-Trussville and Spain Park are also both 1-4 and if they win out, they could bring themselves into the picture, but Hewitt still has Thompson which we project as a loss and Spain Park faces Oak Mountain to eliminate one of them. If Spain Park wins out, then Vestavia would win any head to head in a tiebreaker over them and/or Hewitt-Trussville.

Thompson and Mountain Brook play this week and if Thompson wins, they will lock up the region title on tiebreakers. If Mountain Brook wins and Hoover defeats Vestavia, then Vestavia will be locked in to the four spot as long as they win against Oak Mountain the next week. That will leave Mountain Brook and Hoover in a position for Mountain Brook to win the region or Hoover potentially cause a three-way tie where it would go to non-region tiebreakers.

Region 4

1. James Clemens (5-0)MEDIUM
2. Sparkman (5-0)MEDIUM
3. Austin (4-1)MEDIUM
4. Florence (3-2)HIGH

Others that could grab a spot: Bob Jones (2-3)

James Clemens and Sparkman will face off this weekend to determine the top seed. If Sparkman wins, they will win the region title on tiebreakers no matter what happens with James Clemens and Austin next week. If James Clemens wins, then it will be up to their game against Austin as long as the Black Bears beat Bob Jones this week. If the Jets win, they win the region, if Austin wins that then it could cause a 3-way tie where Austin and Sparkman will have the advantage in non-region wins over James Clemens.

The fourth spot belongs to Florence right now and as long as they beat Grissom this week, they will lock it up. Bob Jones needs to win out over Austin and Huntsville and hope Florence loses out.
