Week 8 is in the books and playoff spots are starting to get locked up across the state! Let’s take a look at our bracketology heading into the final week of region play for most teams and where everyone stands as of now.

We take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out and below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. These current placings are a mix of current standings, projections and our opinion – none of this is set in stone yet. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.

With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.

Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 6A as of right now:

* – Teams marked in red are locked into that position

LOCKED = Locked into that position no matter what
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results

Region 1

1. Saraland (6-0)MEDIUM
2. St. Paul’s (4-1)MEDIUM
3. Blount (4-1)MEDIUM
4. Spanish Fort (4-2)LOW

Others that could grab a spot: Daphne (4-2)

Saraland’s win over St. Paul’s puts them in a good position to win the region, but they have to get past Blount (this week) and Spanish Fort (next week). This is a region that could literally go down to the last week of the season. Spanish Fort fell to Blount last week and that will put Blount ahead on tiebreakers should they lose to Saraland. St. Paul’s is in a good position, having already beaten Spanish Fort and Blount but they still have Daphne this week.

Daphne can still do something with St. Paul’s and Blount left on their schedule. Don’t forget that on the field, Daphne beat Spanish Fort early in the season 35-7 but had to forfeit the game, which gave them their second loss after Saraland. That is why they are not currently on the bracket, but if they win out over St. Paul’s and Blount, they will throw themselves back in the discussion.

As it stands right now, the non-region defeated opponents win totals (if needed to break a 3-way tie) are:

Saraland – 7, potentially 10
Blount – 5, potentially 9
St. Paul’s – 2, potentially 4
Spanish Fort – 0
Daphne: – 0

Region 2

1. Dothan (3-1)LOW
2. Eufaula (4-1)LOW
3. Sidney Lanier (3-1)MEDIUM
4. Park Crossing (2-2)LOW

Others that could grab a spot: Carver-Montgomery (1-3)

The final spot in this region will most likely come down to Park Crossing vs. Carver-Montgomery this week. However, there is still some chaos that can happen.

Eufaula is set at 4-1, at worst they will finish second but they could potentially finish first. Dothan and Sidney Lanier play this week. If Dothan wins, they win the region with Eufaula second and Sidney Lanier third. If Sidney Lanier wins, Eufaula wins the region and Lanier is second – however, the third spot would be up for grabs at that point because Park Crossing defeated Dothan, so if Dothan is at 3-2 and Park Crossing is at 3-2 with a win over Carver, then Park Crossing would actually jump to third with Dothan in fourth (and Carver would be out).

So heading into the final week of region play here:

– Eufaula can only sit and watch Lanier try to hand them a region title
– Dothan can finish anywhere from #1 to #4
– Lanier can finish 2nd or 3rd.
– Carver and Park Crossing can make or miss the playoffs

Should be a fun week for this region!

Region 3

1. Opelika (5-0)LOCKED
2. Stanhope Elmore (4-1)LOCKED
3. Wetumpka (3-2)LOCKED
4. Selma (2-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

This region is set! Opelika beat Stanhope to win the region and Wetumpka beat Selma to get third.

Region 4

1. Hueytown (5-0)MEDIUM
2. Bessemer City (4-1)MEDIUM
3. Paul Bryant (4-1)MEDIUM
4. McAdory (2-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

Hueytown’s win over McAdory and Hillcrest’s loss to Bryant made it where McAdory is locked in to the fourth spot, but the other seeds can still get shifted around. Should Hueytown win over Paul Bryant, then the seeds will be locked in as they are listed above. If Bryant can pull the upset, and Bessemer City wins over Northridge, then that will cause a 3-way tie and it will go to non-region games. All three have playoff teams left on their schedule which would completely change who wins that tiebreaker so we won’t speculate because the numbers could totally shift one way or the other.

If Bryant pulls the upset and Northridge upsets Bessemer City, then Bryant will win the region, but we don’t foresee that happening.

Should things get to the non-region tiebreakers, we will break that down next week.

Region 5

1. Helena (5-0)LOCKED
2. Minor (4-1)LOCKED
3. Homewood (3-2)LOCKED
4. Chelsea (3-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

This region is set after last week’s games. Helena locked up the region title because they will still beat Minor head-to-head if they lose. Minor’s win over Chelsea made them second with head-to-head over Homewood. Then Homewood is locked into third even if they lose to Jackson-Olin because of their head-to-head win over Chelsea. Chelsea is done for the year in region play.

Pelham can still get 3-3, but they will lose any tiebreaker despite a potential win over Helena because they lost head-to-head to Chelsea and Homewood so they lose a 2-way or 3-way tie with those two teams before it would get to the tiebreaker that rewards them for the Helena win.

Region 6

1. Oxford (4-1)HIGH
2. Pinson Valley (5-1)HIGH
3. Gardendale (4-1)HIGH
4. Clay-Chalkville (3-2)HIGH

Others that could grab a spot: None

This region is fairly simple now despite Clay’s upset of Oxford. Pinson Valley is done, but can still win the region. As long as Clay beats Huffman this week, then this will play out:

If Gardendale beats Oxford this week – 1) Pinson Valley, 2) Gardendale, 3) Clay-Chalkville, 4) Oxford

If Oxford beats Gardendale this week – 1) Oxford, 2) Pinson Valley, 3) Gardendale, 4) Clay-Chalkville

If Clay loses to Huffman, they are just the 4-seed regardless and if Gardendale wins then Oxford will be third instead of fourth.

We are projecting Oxford to win over Gardendale, but this game could go either way.

Region 7

1. Muscle Shoals (5-0)LOCKED
2. Athens (4-1)LOCKED
3. Cullman (3-2)LOCKED
4. Hartselle (2-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

This region is done and the four teams are locked in. Pretty simple, no tiebreakers needed.

Region 8

1. Fort Payne (5-0)LOCKED
2. Mae Jemison (4-1)LOCKED
3. Buckhorn (3-2)LOCKED
4. Albertville (2-3)LOCKED

Others that could grab a spot: None

This region is done and the four teams are locked in. Pretty simple, no tiebreakers needed.
