Week 8 is in the books and playoff spots are starting to get locked up across the state! Let’s take a look at our bracketology heading into the final week of region play for most teams and where everyone stands as of now.

We take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out and below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. These current placings are a mix of current standings, projections and our opinion – none of this is set in stone yet. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.

With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.

Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 3A as of right now:

* – Teams marked in red are locked into that position

LOCKED = Locked into that position no matter what
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results

Region 1

1. Flomaton (4-1)MEDIUM
2. Mobile Christian (4-1)MEDIUM
3. Bayside Academy (4-2)MEDIUM
4. TR Miller (3-2)MEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: None

Flomaton can lock the region title up with a win over TR Miller. If that happens and Mobile Christian beats St. Michael (0-5) then Mobile Christian will be second with Bayside Academy third. If Flomaton loses and Mobile Christian wins, then Mobile Christian will be first and there will be a three-way tie for second between Flomaton, Bayside Academy and TR Miller. Bayside Academy will win that tiebreaker because they beat both Flomaton and TR Miller, then TR Miller will be third and Flomaton fourth.

Thomasville is 2-3 and could tie TR Miller if they lose to Flomaton, but TR Miller won head-to-head so they can’t drop out of the playoffs.

Region 2

1. Pike County (6-0)LOCKED
2. Providence Christian (5-1)LOCKED
3. Geneva (4-2)MEDIUM
4. Opp (3-3)MEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: Wicksburg (3-3)

The top two teams are set, but Geneva plays Wicksburg this week. If Wicksburg wins and Opp loses to Slocomb (2-4), they will jump up and be third place while Geneva is fourth. If Wicksburg wins and Opp wins then there will be a three-way tie for third and it will go to non-region games.

Region 3

1. Pike Road (6-0)LOCKED
2. St. James (5-1)LOCKED
3. Montgomery Academy (4-2)MEDIUM
4. Bullock County (4-2)MEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: None

Pike Road and St. James are locked in on tiebreakers. Montgomery Academy isn’t locked in yet because they face Bullock County this week and the winner gets third while the loser gets fourth. The loser could get in a tie with Southside Selma but Southside lost to both head-to-head.

Region 4

1. Gordo (6-0)LOCKED
2. Winfield (5-1)LOCKED
3. Oakman (4-2)HIGH
4. Greene County (3-3)MEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: Carbon Hill (2-4)

Gordo and Winfield are locked in on tiebreakers. Oakman and Green County play this week and the winner gets third. Should Greene County lose and Carbon Hill win over Holt, then Carbon Hill will actually be the fourth seed and Green County is out.

Region 5

1. Fultondale (6-0)LOCKED
2. Locust Fork (3-2)MEDIUM
3. Midfield (3-2)MEDIUM
4. Vinemont (2-3)MEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: JB Pennington (2-3)

Behind Fultondale, a few things could happen. Locust Fork beat Midfield but they lost to Vinemont. Vinemont lost to Pennington last week, but play Holly Pond this week (1-4) while Pennington plays Midfield. If Midfield/Locust Fork/Vinemont win, then the standings will be as they are above. If Pennington wins, then it causes a crazy tiebreaker that we will get into next week.

Region 6

1. Piedmont (6-0)MEDIUM
2. Randolph County (5-1)MEDIUM
3. Walter Wellborn (5-1)MEDIUM
4. BB Comer (2-4)MEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: Pleasant Valley (3-3), Saks (2-4)

Piedmont plays Walter Wellborn this weekend and if they win, the top three will be set as it is above. If Wellborn wins, then it will be a three-way tie that goes to non-region tiebreakers.

BB Comer is at 2-4, but has the head-to-head win over Pleasant Valley. BB Comer would have to lose to Weaver (0-6) to be out, or if they win and Pleasant Valley beats Randolph County on the road then they are out too. However, Saks plays Glencoe (1-5) and can work their way into the conversation as they beat BB Comer and that would lead to a 3-way tie.

Region 7

1. Susan Moore (6-0)LOCKED
2. Geraldine (4-1)HIGH
3. Sylvania (4-1)HIGH
4. Plainview (2-3)MEDIUM

Others that could grab a spot: Pisgah (1-3)

Susan Moore got the win over Geraldine and they are done with region play and locked in champ. Geraldine and Sylvania play this week to determine second and third.

If Plainview beats Pisgah this week, they are set in fourth. However, if Pisgah wins and New Hope loses to Brindlee Mountain, Pisgah is fourth. If New Hope also wins, it is a three-way tie for fourth and it will go to non-region games.

Region 8

1. Westminster Christian (4-1)HIGH
2. Lauderdale County (5-1)HIGH
3. Clements (3-2)HIGH
4. Colbert Heights (3-2)HIGH

Others that could grab a spot: None

Lauderdale County fell to Westminster Christian last week and now have to sit and wait to see if Westminster wins over East Lawrence. If they do, they will be first while Lauderdale County is second. If East Lawrence wins, then Westminster Christian would fall into a potential three-way tie with Clements and Colbert Heights that would go to non-region games because Colbert Heights defeated Westminster Christian.

Should there be a three-way tie with Clemens, Colbert Heights and East Lawrence at 3-3 for third, East Lawrence wouldn’t make the playoffs because they lost to both of the other two.
