Week 8 is in the books and playoff spots are starting to get locked up across the state! Let’s take a look at our bracketology heading into the final week of region play for most teams and where everyone stands as of now.
We take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out and below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. These current placings are a mix of current standings, projections and our opinion – none of this is set in stone yet. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.
With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.
Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 2A as of right now:
* – Teams marked in red are locked into that position
LOCKED = Locked into that position no matter what
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results
1. Leroy (6-0) – LOCKED
2. Cottage Hill Christian (5-1) – LOCKED
3. JU Blacksher (4-2) – LOCKED
4. Chickasaw (3-3) – HIGH
Others that could grab a spot: Southern Choctaw (3-3)
Chickasaw beat Southern Choctaw last week and has Washington County (1-5) this week. Should they win, they will be fourth. If they lose, then Southern Choctaw has to beat Cottage Hill Christian in order to be the fourth seed.
1. Ariton (6-0) – LOCKED
2. GW Long (5-1) – MEDIUM
3. Abbeville (5-1) – MEDIUM
4. Daleville (3-3) – LOCKED
Others that could grab a spot: None.
Ariton locked things up with a win over GW Long. GW Long and Abbeville play for second and third this week. Daleville can still tie with Cottonwood and Geneva County, but beat both of them head-to-head.
1. Highland Home (6-0) – MEDIUM
2. Luverne (5-1) – MEDIUM
3. Goshen (5-1) – MEDIUM
4. New Brockton (2-3) – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Zion Chapel (2-4), Samson (2-3)
Highland Home and Goshen play this week. If the Flying Squadron win, they are first, Luverne second and Goshen third. If Goshen wins, it goes to non-region tiebreakers.
This region is a little weird because they will play through week 10 as New Brockton and Samson meet then. Zion Chapel can be eliminated with a loss against New Brockton this week or stay alive with a win.
1. Reeltown (6-0) – LOCKED
2. LaFayette (4-1) – LOCKED
3. Thorsby (3-2) – LOCKED
4. Vincent (2-3) – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Fayetteville (2-3)
The top three spots are set because Thorsby wins a tiebreaker over both Vincent and Fayetteville. Vincent and Fayetteville play this week to determine the fourth spot.
1. Aliceville (6-0) – LOCKED
2. Sulligent (4-1) – MEDIUM
3. Cold Springs (3-2) – MEDIUM
4. Tarrant (3-2) – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Southeastern (2-3)
Sulligent and Cold Springs play this week and a Sulligent win gives them second. If Cold Springs wins and Tarrant beats Southeastern, then there will be a 3-way tie for second and it will go to non-region games to work out the seeding (but all three will be in the playoffs).
If Southeastern beats Tarrant, they will be fourth if Cold Springs wins. If Sulligent wins, then there will be a three-way tie for third that will go to non-region wins.
1. Ohatchee (5-0) – LOCKED
2. Ranburne (5-1) – LOCKED
3. Cleveland (3-2) – HIGH
4. Westbrook Christian (3-2) – HIGH
Others that could grab a spot: None
Ohatchee has the region locked up thanks to their win last week over Ranburne. This week, Cleveland and Westbrook Christian play for third, loser gets fourth.
1. Red Bay (5-0) – LOCKED
2. Addison (4-1) – LOCKED
3. Colbert County (4-2) – LOCKED
4. Sheffield (2-3) – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Hatton (2-3)
The top three spots are locked. Sheffield plays Tanner (1-4) this week and a win puts them in fourth. If Tanner wins and Hatton beats Addison, then Hatton will be fourth. If Tanner wins and Addison beats Hatton, then there will be a three-way tie for fourth that will go to non-region games which Tanner hasn’t won any so far and won’t win the tiebreaker even if they beat East Limestone next week.
1. Fyffe (6-0) – LOCKED
2. Collinsville (5-1) – HIGH
3. North Sand Mountain (4-2) – MEDIUM
4. Cedar Bluff (4-2) – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: None
Fyffe locked up the region and the four playoff teams are set, but Collinsville plays Cedar Bluff this week to either solidify the seeding as it is above with a Collinsville win, or lead to non-region tiebreakers with a Cedar Bluff win.
