Week 8 is in the books and playoff spots are starting to get locked up across the state! Let’s take a look at our bracketology heading into the final week of region play for most teams and where everyone stands as of now.
We take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out and below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. These current placings are a mix of current standings, projections and our opinion – none of this is set in stone yet. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.
With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.
Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 1A as of right now:
* – Teams marked in red are locked into that position
LOCKED = Locked into that position no matter what
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results
1. Sweet Water (5-0) – LOCKED
2. Millry (4-1) – LOCKED
3. Marengo (4-2) – LOCKED
4. St. Luke’s (2-3) – HIGH
Others that could grab a spot: Fruitdale (2-3)
The top three are locked in because even if Millry loses to St. Luke’s, that won’t put Marengo ahead on tiebreakers. St. Luke’s beat Fruitdale head-to-head and they play Millry while Fruitdale plays Sweet Water. JF Shields (1-4) has a chance to cause a three-way tie because of beating St. Luke’s, but it’s one that Fruitdale will win on non-region tiebreakers.
1. Brantley (6-0) – LOCKED
2. Elba (5-1) – LOCKED
3. Florala (4-2) – LOW
4. Georgiana (3-3) – LOW
Others that could grab a spot: Kinston (3-3)
Florala and Kinston play this week and a Florala win locks up the third spot for them and the fourth spot for Georgiana. If Kinston wins, and Georgiana loses to Red Level, then Kinston is third, Florala is fourth. If Kinston wins and Georgiana wins, then it will go to a three-way tiebreaker on non-region games.
1. Isabella (6-0) – LOCKED
2. Maplesville (4-1) – LOCKED
3. Linden (3-2) – LOCKED
4. Keith (2-3) – HIGH
Others that could grab a spot: Francis Marion (2-3)
Linden has Ellwood Christian (1-4) and wins any tiebreakers they may get in with Keith or Francis Marion. Keith gets winless AL Johnson after beating Francis Marion head-to-head so the only way they drop out is if Francis Marion beats Maplesville and Keith loses.
1. Lanett (5-0) – HIGH
2. Notasulga (4-1) – HIGH
3. Billingsley (4-1) – HIGH
4. Wadley (3-2) – HIGH
Others that could grab a spot: None
The four teams are set, but the seeding can go anyway. Lanett and Billingsley play while Notasulga and Wadley play. If:
Lanett/Notasulga win – 1) Lanett, 2) Notasulga, 3) Billingsley, 4) Wadley
Lanett/Wadley win – 1) Lanett, then non-region tiebreakers with all three tied at 4-2
Billingsley/Notasulga win – 1) non-region tiebreakers with all three tied at 5-1, 4) Wadley
Billingsley/Wadley win – 1) Billingsley, 2) Lanett, 3. Wadley, 4) Notasulga
1. Spring Garden (5-0) – LOCKED
2. Donoho (4-1) – MEDIUM
3. Appalachian (3-2) – MEDIUM
4. Victory Christian (2-3) – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Winterboro (3-3)
Donoho and Appalachian play this week. If Donoho wins, they are second and Appalachian will either be thrown into a three-way tie with Victory Christian and Winterboro, or they will be fourth while Winterboro is third if Victory Christian loses.
If Appalachian wins, then they are second and Donoho is third. In that scenario, Victory Christian needs to beat Talladega County Central (0-5) to make the playoffs.
1. Pickens County (6-0) – LOCKED
2. South Lamar (5-1) – LOCKED
3. Berry (4-2) – MEDIUM
4. Hubbertville (3-3) – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Marion County (3-3)
The top two are set, but Berry has to beat Marion County to lock up the third seed (and that will also lock up Hubbertville in fourth if they win). Should Marion County win, then it depends on Hubbertville – Hubbertville wins, it’s a three-way tie that goes to non-region games. Hubbertville loses, Marion County is third, Berry is fourth.
If Hubbertville and Marion County lose and Lynn wins, then it will trigger a three-way tie, but Lynn can’t win that based on non-region games. It would be up to Hubbertville and Marion County for the final spot.
1. Decatur Heritage (5-0) – LOCKED
2. Valley Head (3-2) – LOW
3. Falkville (3-2) – LOW
4. Woodville (3-2) – LOW
Others that could grab a spot: RA Hubbard (3-3)
Decatur Heritage is locked in, but this region is a mess behind them. This has to play out, but it’s very possible to have as much as a four-way tie. RA Hubbard just has to sit back and watch.
1. Mars Hill (5-0) – LOCKED
2. Waterloo (5-1) – LOCKED
3. Vina (3-2) – HIGH
4. Hackleburg (3-2) – HIGH
Others that could grab a spot: None
Vina and Hackleburg play this week to determine third and fourth. Other than that, this region is set.
