Week 6 is in the books and with that, we have a better idea of how the regions will finish out in each classification. Some of the top teams have locked up a playoff spot at the very least and many are already in good position, barring crazy upsets, for a region title.
We take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out with only a few weeks left in region play. Below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. These current placings are a mix of current standings, projections and our opinion – none of this is set in stone yet. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.
With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.
Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 5A as of right now:
HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results
1. Vigor – HIGH
2. Citronelle – MEDIUM
3. Jackson – MEDIUM
4. Faith Academy – LOW
Others that could grab a spot: Satsuma
Vigor is still perfect overall on the year, but Citronelle is still 3-0 in region play. They play each other on 10/19. Jackson’s only region loss is to Vigor, so they can still move to second and get a home date in the first round if they beat Citronelle on the road this week. Faith Academy has a tough road ahead with Vigor, Jackson and Satsuma which could be a play in game for the fourth spot on 10/26.
1. Greenville – MEDIUM
2. Tallassee – MEDIUM
3. Carroll – MEDIUM
4. Beauregard – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Charles Henderson
Greenville is atop the region by two games right now and have already at least locked up a playoff spot. They already hold the tiebreaker spot over Tallassee but still have Beauregard and Carroll remaining. Charles Henderson is in a tough spot with their loss to Beauregard, but can still technically make it.
1. Demopolis – HIGH
2. Chilton County – HIGH
3. Bibb County – HIGH
4. Central-Tuscaloosa – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Shelby County
As of right now, Demopolis and Chilton County will be for the region on 10/26. Bibb County can potentially play their way up into the top 2, maybe even first if they beat Chilton County this week. Central is one game ahead of Shelby County, but can still fall in a couple of weeks to potentially put Shelby County in the fourth spot.
1. Briarwood – HIGH
2. Ramsay – HIGH
3. Pleasant Grove – MEDIUM
4. Parker – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Fairfield
Briarwood and Ramsay are on a collision course on 10/19 for the region title. Pleasant Grove has the tiebreaker win over Parker and can essentially lock up a playoff spot with a win over Fairfield and at least one of John Carroll or Woodlawn. Parker holds the tieberaker over Fairfield and just need to beat Woodlawn and Wenonah.
1. Mortimer Jordan – HIGH
2. Sylcauga – MEDIUM
3. Central-Clay County – MEDIUM
4. Center Point – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: Munford
Mortimer Jordan’s wild win over Central-Clay County put them in the driver’s seat for this region with wins over Sylacauga and Central already. Sylacauga has Central on 10/19 for that second spot unless Center Point can upset them this weekend. Munford can still technically make it, but it will be tough.
1. Etowah – HIGH
2. Boaz – MEDIUM
3. Alexandria – MEDIUM
4. Southside-Gadsden – MEDIUM
Others that could grab a spot: None
As of right now, these four teams are pretty set. Some chaos could happen to potentially allow Sardis/Crossville in, but it’s most likely not going to happen. Etowah and Boaz play on 10/26 for control of first. Etowah also has to get past Alexandria and Alexandria has to get past Southside. So things could still shake up within the top four.
1. Russellville – MEDIUM
2. Jasper – MEDIUM
3. Corner – MEDIUM
4. Dora – LOW
Others that could grab a spot: Lawrence County
Russellville and Jasper will play on 10/19 for first place. Jasper has already defeated Corner and Dora. Corner defeated Dora which put them in third, but they still have to get past Lawrence County.
1. Madison Academy – HIGH
2. Brewer – MEDIUM
3. East Limestone – MEDIUM
4. Guntersville – LOW
Others that could grab a spot: Scottsboro
Madison Academy is in a really good position to finish first. Behind them, Brewer and East Limestone play on 10/19 for home field in the playoffs barring another upset. Scottsboro is alive, but Guntersville owns the tiebreaker over them.
